Extensive technical library for folklore/European ethnology and related subjects. When the association and the museum was founded, also a technical library was built up. This currently comprises about 100,000 volumes and is run as a publicly accessible reference library.

AUSTRIAN MAGAZINE OF FOLKLORE ONLINE

The books and magazines can only be used in the well-equipped reading room. The library database may be researched on-site. A photocopying machine is available.

In order to deal with your literature requests quickly, we kindly ask you to note down the signatures of the books and journals you are interested in in advance. Several reference works are available on display in the reading room. Advance orders are not necessary, but possible. The works you require will be made available for you in the reading room within a short time.

Since 2010 the museum library has been affiliated to the Austrian Library Association (OBV). Two thirds of the library's total stock can be accessed via the OBV's search engine. The complete data stock (55,584 titles on 24 December 2018) can be accessed via the literature search Primo.

A small part of the offprints (articles and contributions from journals and collective works) are searchable via the alphabetical card catalogue.

All publications from the publishing activities of the Austrian Museum of Folk Life and Folk Art and the Association for Folklore as well as the former Ethnographic Museum Schloß Kittsee can be found in the online publications. The works marked there with a green sheet are available online as digital copies free of charge. In addition, in the category Library Collection we offer digitised copies of selected publications from the library of the Ethnographic Museum with reference to the object collections or to research activities.
